A recent decision by the Libyan Council of Ministers has transferred the powers of the Trademark Office to the Commercial Registry, prompting a temporary suspension in the acceptance of trademark applications.
While the Trademark Office remains under the Ministry of Economy and Trade and no regulatory changes have been announced, the administrative transition requires time and coordination. During this period, no new trademark applications are being accepted. Importantly, any filings that were due during the suspension will not be considered forfeited. These applications will be automatically transferred and processed once operations resume, even if the legal deadline has technically passed.
The timeline for the transfer remains uncertain but is expected to take a few weeks. Saba IP is actively monitoring developments and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
