Saudi Arabia has become the first IP office in the Middle East to join the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Digital Access Service (DAS), following confirmation of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property’s (SAIP) enrollment.
According to WIPO, SAIP will participate as an Accessing Office, allowing it to retrieve priority documents electronically from other participating offices. SAIP will be able to access priority documents for:
- Hague international applications
- National industrial design applications
- National patent applications
- National trademark applications
- National utility model applications
- PCT international applications
DAS replaces the need to submit physical or scanned priority documents, enabling offices to obtain them directly through the system. For applicants operating across multiple jurisdictions, this change streamlines the filing workflow and contributes to more efficient portfolio management, especially for entities with active filing programs in the Kingdom.
