Morocco: Participation in WIPO AI Infrastructure Initiative

March 31, 2026

Morocco has joined the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII), an initiative led by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) aimed at addressing the operational and technical challenges facing intellectual property systems in the context of artificial intelligence.

Represented by the Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Morocco positioned itself as an active contributor to global discussions on AI and intellectual property. The initiative aligns with the country’s broader focus on digital transformation and innovation, including national programs supporting the development of AI-driven solutions for businesses, startups, and research institutions.

The AIII platform is designed as a collaborative forum rather than a rule-making body. It brings together policymakers, rights holders, and technical experts to explore practical tools such as watermarking, metadata, digital identifiers, and content recognition technologies. These tools aim to support ownership identification, rights management, and the distinction between human- and AI-generated content. As part of the initiative, WIPO is also establishing a technical exchange network to develop and test such solutions.

While no immediate legal changes are expected, the initiative signals the direction of travel for AI-related IP frameworks. Rights holders should anticipate increased reliance on technical solutions for content tracking and enforcement, particularly in areas involving AI-generated works. Early alignment with these tools may offer a strategic advantage as standards begin to solidify.
