On March 20, 2012, the General Administration of the Protection of Intellectual Property in cooperation with Saba & Co. IP – Yemen Office organized a workshop on the trademark registration process in the country and how to improve it. It is worth mentioning here that the General Administration of the Protection of IP aims at encouraging scientific, technical and artistic inventions promoting thus creativity and innovation in the country. It also provides assistance for all research projects and its main objective is to protect intellectual property services.
The workshop included an introduction on the Yemeni trademark law and its regulations and discussed the benefits of introducing an automated system for the registration of trademarks. The most important issues that were raised during this workshop included:
– Mode of payment of the officialfees
– Evaluation of the publication procedure
– Decisions on oppositions
– The role of the Board of Grievances
– Issuance of certificates (implementation)
– Renewal notices (implementation) d
