The importance of Intellectual Property Rights and their effective enforcement are resonating with officials in the Arab world. This is evident with the growing number of workshops dedicated to the issue of IP protection and tools to combat piracy and counterfeits. Jordan, as an active member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has sponsored many such workshops. The Jordanian Customs have recently hosted a workshop dealing with and discussing the role of IP in the region, and the border measures that can be adopted. The workshop was centered on the importance of IP protection, as well as the dynamic role of the Jordanian Customs officials in the protection of Jordan’s borders against piracy and counterfeits. Mechanisms of collaboration with the World Customs Organization (WCO) were presented to delegates from various Arab countries, including Sudan, Syria, Palestine, Libya, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
