The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization welcomed the deposit of the instrument of ratification of Egypt to the Madrid Protocol Concerning the International Registration of Marks on June 03, 2009. The Protocol will enter into force in the country on September 03, 2009. The Madrid Protocol currently has a total of 78 contracting member states. Member states from the Arab region include: Bahrain (in force as of December 15, 2005), Morocco (in force as of October 08, 1999), Oman (in force as of October 16, 2007), and Syria (in force as of August 05, 2004).
