The Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia approved on January 12, 2008 the bylaws of a newly-established Saudi Consumer Protection Association by virtue of ministerial resolution no. 2 of 2008. The 21-article bylaws outline the general directives and rulings governing the actions and the conduct of the association. This contains provisions for the selection of directors, the creation of committees, the conduct of meetings, etc…
In general, the main purpose of the association is to protect the interest of Saudi consumers against unfair practices, mainly including fraud, misrepresentation, and other consumer/business interactions. The goals of the association are achieved by:
(1) Conducting research studies and organizing seminars and workshops;
(2) Carrying out public awareness campaigns;
(3) Working closely with various public and private sectors;
(4) Handling complaints related to the various issues at stake.
