The Lebanese Trademark and Patent Office adopted on October 1, 2007 the 9th Edition of the Nice International Classification of Goods and Services and is now accepting trademark applications for goods and services under the said classification. Prior to that, the Lebanese Trademark and Patent Office used to follow the 8th edition of the Nice Classification.
The 9th edition came into force on January 1, 2007. The Nice classification is continuously revised and a new edition is published every five years. Accordingly, the 10th edition of the classification will be due on January 1, 2012. The revision is usually carried out by a Committee of Experts set under the Nice Agreement. All states party to the Agreement are members of the Committee of Experts.
Most of the updates of the 9th Edition involve classes 14, 20, 21, 26, 29, 34, 42, and 45. Minor changes and additions have also been made to other classes. Changes and amendments include, among other things, the transfer of goods and services from one class to another, deletions, as well as changes in class headings.
