The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization welcomed the deposit of the instrument of accession of Bahrain to the Trademark Law Treaty on December 18, 2006. The said Treaty will enter into force in Bahrain on March 18, 2007.
The above comes within the scope of Bahrain’s growing interest to develop a solid intellectual property system. This interest emanates from the fact that Bahrain has long recognized the importance of intellectual property in world trade, in the exchange of goods and services between countries, and in the transfer of modern technology and technical designs.
By way of background, the Trademark Law Treaty aims at simplifying and harmonizing the procedures of national and regional registration systems, thus making those procedures less-complex and more predictable. The Treaty now has a total of 38 contracting member states. Contracting member states from our region include Egypt (entry into force: October 07, 1999), Morocco (signature: October 05, 1995), and Turkey (entry into force: January 01, 2005).
