The Libyan Trademark Office announced a December 31, 2015 deadline for reinstatement of trademark registrations which have expired between 2013 and 2015. According to the statutory provisions, the protection period is ten years from the filing date. However, the purpose of the present exemption is to address the considerable backlog of work that the TMO is currently dealing with, which comes as a result of the ongoing unrest in the country leading to an increased workload due to scarce resources. With the expiration of the deadline, it appears that the TMO is still accepting reinstatement requests and it is still not clear for how long will the extension last.
