According to an official notification issued by the Egyptian Patent Office on February 1, 2010, the 30-month time limit for entering the national phase under PCT Chapters I and II may be extended for an additional 3-month period upon submission of a written request and payment of a substantial surcharge for late entry. This decision comes in line with the provisions of Ministerial Decree no. 10 of 2010 (published in Official Gazette no. 24 on January 31, 2010). The written request must list the reasons for the extension and can be filed after the expiry of the time limit. It should be noted that the extended time limit does not apply to the filing of a request for examination, the applicant’s statement and evidence in opposition proceedings, and the payment of annuity fees.
