In the scope of the Jordanian government’s continuous efforts to deter intellectual property theft, an Intellectual Property Rights Law Enforcement Office was recently established as a new section within the General Security Department which falls under the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department. The main purpose of the IP Rights Law Enforcement Office is to curb counterfeiting including software, copyright, and music piracy in the country. To achieve this purpose, the Office is mainly required to:
(1) conduct regular raids in the market in search of pirated and counterfeit products;
(2) increase cooperation with the private and public sectors including the Trademark Office, the National Library, and the Customs Authorities;
(3) handle complaints about alleged distribution of counterfeit and pirated articles.
