Libya Introduces New Trademark Renewal Fee Structure Effective 2025

Published On: February 4th, 2025

In a significant regulatory development, Libya has established the official trademark renewal fee at the equivalent of USD 20,000 in local currency, effective January 1, 2025.

Trademark owners may opt to settle the renewal fee in full or through equal annual installments spread over a period of ten years, corresponding to the trademark protection period. The first installment is due at the time of renewal, with subsequent installments payable on or before the anniversary of the renewal date each year.

Notably, the renewal application will be published once, and a single certificate will be issued. However, where payment is made in installments, the annual renewal fee remains mandatory to maintain the validity of the registration.

At present, discussions are ongoing among key stakeholders and the relevant authorities regarding the implications and practical implementation of this decision. Further updates may follow as the situation evolves.
