On the occasion of the world Intellectual Property Day on April 26, the Sultanate of Oman organized an “Intellectual Property Rights Symposium” which was held from April 27 till April 28 in Muscat.
Saba & Co IP – Oman Office participated in this symposium by giving a presentation on infringement and piracy in which they stressed on the following:
·Adopting a national campaign to develop IP awareness. Such a campaign can be initiated by the Authorities in the country along with the private sector partnership and can be addressed to all community sectors.
·Developing awareness, improving knowledge and adopting clear formalities by all concerned authorities.
·Creating an enforcement system with clear formalities, by establishing an administrative department for taking various measures such as seizure, confiscation and destruction of infringed goods. Such a department will open new job opportunities, encourage the protection of IP rights, protect right holders, develop the local economy and bring new investment to the country.
·Supporting the Intellectual Property Department.
The above portrays the Omani government’s ongoing efforts in protecting both the owners and consumers.
