The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) to enhance trademark enforcement at the Kingdom’s border crossings. This initiative seeks to improve import control procedures and reduce violations related to trademarks entering Saudi Arabia.
As part of their ongoing collaboration, the two entities aim to implement international best practices in intellectual property protection. Key areas of focus include raising awareness about counterfeit goods, developing fieldwork mechanisms for inspection tours, and enhancing electronic integration to enable efficient information exchange between the authorities.
This cooperation is expected to yield significant benefits, including supporting a knowledge-based economy, protecting the rights of creators and investors, and fostering consumer confidence in the local market. The initiative also aligns with efforts to streamline legal procedures for trademark protection in accordance with international standards, while addressing the environmental impact of counterfeit goods.
By promoting a transparent and fair economic environment, this collaboration underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering innovation and protecting creativity, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.
